Shirley A. (Neubecker) Friend, 77, passed away at Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas on March 9, 2011.  Shirley was born in Grenola, Kansas on September 3, 1933 to Glenn and Hazel (Eaglin) Neubecker.

The family moved away from the area, and Shirley graduated from Winfield High School in Winfield, Kansas.  She married Billy C. Friend in 1953, and they had two children.  She lived in Wichita, Kansas for many years where she worked at Dillard's and Von Maur stores.  She also lived for a time in Gunnison, Colorado where her son, John Friend and wife, Traci live.  In recent months, she resided in Manhattan, Kansas where her daughter, Susan and husband, Terry Roberts live.  She also has two brothers, Dwain and Dwight Neubecker and one sister, Barbara Worman of Ellinwood, Kansas, as well as one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held in Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas on March 14, 2011 where she is buried beside her parents.  Memorials are requested for the Grenola Library Children's Room.
