Blossom May Buchanan, age 93, of Lexington, Oklahoma and formerly of Longton, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at her home.  She was born on October 5, 1917 in Oak Valley, Kansas to Glenn Smith and Josie (Russell) Smith.

Blossom started to school in Oak Valley, and later the family moved to the Longton area where she graduated from high school.  She married Everett Buchanan on December 24, 1937.  Together they raised a son, James, and a daughter, Bonnie.  Blossom worked tirelessly as a homemaker.  She cherished her family and truly enjoyed caring for and providing for them.  She lived in Elk County most of her life until she moved to Lexington, Oklahoma to be close to her daughter.  She was a member of the Elk Falls Methodist Church and the Friendly Fourteen Club.  Blossom was appropriately named because of her affection for flowers.  She especially loved roses and growing violets in her home.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Arnold and husband, Don of Lexington, Oklahoma; one grandson, Dan Arnold and wife, Jenean of Norman, Oklahoma; one great-grandson, Patrick Arnold; two sisters, Doris Reed and husband, Dean of Parsons, Kansas and Marjorie Weniger of Wichita, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Bernice Cain; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Josie Smith; her husband, Everett; and her son, James (Jim) Buchanan.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas.  Memorials may be made to the Elk Falls Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Purcell, Oklahoma.
