Obama Announces Support for UN Resolution Stating 'Indigenous Peoples Have the Right to the Lands ... They Have Traditionally Owned, Occupied or Otherwise Used or Acquired'

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama, addressing a tribal nations conference at the White House last week, announded that the U.S. government is now supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, which includes a sweeping declaration that "indigenous peoples" have a right to lands and resources they traditionally occupied or "otherwise used."

"Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired," says the U.N. resolution.  The Bush administration had declined to support the resolution.

Do the Osage want Elk County back?  Would be interesting to know the tribal opinion.

Interesting, perhaps.  Relevant, I don't think so.  Personally, I think the more significant question is WTF is Obama doing?  His support of this UN Resolution calls into question our very basis as a nation of laws.  In this case, treaty law, perhaps the core of all civil laws of contract.  By ascribing to the existence of a 'right' by 'indigenous peoples' to 'the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired' is he not inviting or ascribing to the nullification of treaties under law?  The St Louis Treaty of June 2, 1825 is but one example:

"Articles of a treaty made and concluded at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, between William Clark, Superintendent of Indian Affairs, Commissioner on the part of the United States, and the undersigned, Chiefs, Head-Men, and Warriors, of the Great and Little Osage Tribes of Indians, duly authorized and empowered by their respective Tribes or Nations.

IN order more effectually to extend to said Tribes that protection of the Government so much desired by them, it is agreed as follows:
Article 1.

The Great and Little Osage Tribes or Nations do, hereby, cede and relinquish to the United States, all their right, title, interest, and claim, to lands lying within the State of Missouri and Territory of Arkansas, and to all lands lying West of the said State of Missouri and Territory of Arkansas, North and West of the Red River, South of the Kansas River, and East of a line to be drawn from the head sources of the Kansas, Southwardly through the Rock Saline, with such reservations, for such considerations, and upon such terms as are hereinafter specified, expressed, and provided for."

I have a greater concern about this dipstick's lack of understanding of just how important words can be.  And his obvious acquiescence to the 'imposed social justice' views of non-Americans (The UN body politic) rather than his oath to defend the US Constitution & its' basis as the supreme law of a nation designed to operate under rule of law rather than the whim of man.
