I am with the Girl Scout Council of the Flint Hills.  Our region includes the western half of Elk County, although we do not have many girl members there.  I am the project manager for Challenge Yourself, Change the World, a USDA funded project that encourages girls to start a social entrepreneurship within their own community in collaboration with other community resources and adult advisors.  The girls must be 14-17 to participate, but do not have to be a current member of Girl Scouts.  We trained 12 girls from throughout our 7 county region during the summer of 2006, and I am overseeing 7 projects now such as a community garden, gardening services for senior citizens, a cultural awareness carnival, and a juried art festival.  I will be recruiting again in January, hoping to have at least one girl from Elk County this year!  Please contact me if you know of girls at this age level who might be interested!
