Steven Edward "Barney" Barnaby, age 66, of Elk City, Kansas, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at his home in Elk City. Steven was born September 19, 1943 in Independence, Kansas to James "Jim" and Doris (McDonald) Barnaby.  

He grew up in Howard, Kansas and graduated from Howard High School in 1961.  He then entered the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War stationed in Germany.  He worked as a lineman for Westar for 32 years before retiring.  He was a member of the American Legion.  On April 2, 1999, Steven married Frankie Jacka in Eureka, Kansas where they made their home before moving to Elk City, Kansas.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Barnaby of Emporia, Kansas; two daughters, Connie Johnson and Stephanie Arbuckle, both of Emporia, Kansas; two stepsons, Shane Black of Coos Bay, Oregon and Tyrone Black of Garnett, Kansas; four brothers, Roland Barnaby and Max Barnaby, both of Wichita, Kansas, Dale Barnaby of Pikesville, Tennessee, and Wayne Barnaby of Cary, Tennessee; two sisters, Geneva Barnaby of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Wanetta Arnold of Crossville, Tennessee; and 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on August 4, 2010 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
