"Court Items."

"Forty-one cases, altogether."

"Only two cases went to the jury."

"Commissioners have been appointed to assess what damages will accrue to property owners by the erection and maintenance of a dam, across Elk river, to be built by Mr. Cline."

"The court held that the corporation of the city of Howard was legal."

"Only one divorce granted during this term."

"The Hotels do not have sufficient sleeping facilities for court week."

"Court was held in the School House without cost to the county." [Howardites were still dragging their feet on donations for the construction of the Wabash Street Elk County courthouse]

"Judge Parks, Mrs. Carrie Hulls' much abused attorney was attending the court."

From the rival Howard Courant-Ledger, April 3, 1878, a daily morning newspaper:

"Our city school is suspended this week, owning to the fact that the school house is occupied by the District court. Let's finish the court house in time for the next term of court and save this inconvenience." [It wasn't]
