A Birthday Celebration (Flory)

F. C. Flory, senior editor of The Citizen, attains to the age of eighty years today.  Last Sunday, his sons and daughters, together with children, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gathered at the home of his son, Floyd C. Flory, junior member of the firm, and sat down to a beautiful dinner in celebration of the wonderful date.

All of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Flory were present, except one son, Alan Flory, whose home is too far distant for him, his wife and two fine sons, Frederick and Alan Reid, to make the trip at this time.  Mr. and Mrs. Flory have been fortunate in never having been called to follow a child to the grave.  Their five sons and two daughters all are living and in their usual health.

The dinner was prepared by the two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Sexton, and Mrs. Mabel Zeller, and Mrs. Floyd C. Flory, the daughter-in-law, at whose home the feast was spread.  One handsomely decorated long table was set in the dining room, whose central features was the "cake of eighty candles," flanked on either side with four tall tapers in Christmas colors.  A smaller but similar table was set just within the arch of the adjoining living room.

The dinner was all that a feast of celebration should be.  Two fine turkeys figured prominently, one which was roasted at home by Mrs. Fred C. Flory, the partner of the honoree for more than fifty-four years of life's joys and sorrows shared together.

Mr. Flory has lived in Elk County with the exception of a few years in Western Kansas, since boyhood.  He has been editor of The Citizen publishing it continuously since 1894.  During all these years, he has striven to serve his community, his church, his family, giving to them his highest endeavor.  The many friends of Mr. Flory cordially congratulate him on having reached the eightieth milestone of life in a fair state of health, still able to perform his editorial duties on his newspaper and to enjoy to an appreciable extent his former physical activities.

Flory, of Ottawa, Kansas, and their son's famly, Mr. and Mrs. James Flory and their small son Donnie of Lawrence, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Flory and daughter, Mrs. Virginia Lou Threlfall and little son, Bill; Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Zeller and daughter Mary Carolyn, of Howard (their eldest daughter Margaret could not return from college at Emporia until that evening).  Mrs. Ruth Flory Sexton and son Jim of Severy; Mr. and Mrs. Ebbert Flory and sons Mark and Joel, of Eureka, Kansas; Frank Flory, of the home.
