Ethel Marie (Buss) Bish, age 91, a resident of Wichita, Kansas and formerly of Longton, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Lakepoint Nursing Home in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born on July 13, 1918 in Garfield County, Oklahoma, the daughter of C. Robert (Rob) and Bertha (Bayer) Buss.

Ethel graduated high school as valedictorian.  She began teaching elementary school in 1938 in Pleasant View, Oklahoma.  Her teaching career would last 42 years when she retired in May 1980.  She also taught at Mutual and Alva, Oklahoma, and for 25 years she taught in Wichita, Kansas.

On August 8, 1946, Ethel was united in marriage to Charles W. Bish, Sr. in Woodward, Oklahoma.  After their retirement, Ethel and Charles moved to rural Elk County near Longton, Kansas.  She was a member of the Longton United Methodist Church where she was involved with the Bible study group.  From November 2005 until September 2009, Ethel resided at Cornerstone Assisted Living in Wichita where she was active in facility activities and embroidery for annual church fundraiser auction and family gifts.  Ethel was very caring, desired to not cause anyone any extra work, and always remembered every birthday and anniversary.  She was also known for having the sweetest smile.

Ethel is survived by three sons, Charles Bish Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Wichita, Kansas, Darrel Bish and his wife Irma of Longton, Kansas, and Roger Bish and his wife Linda of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Dorothy Creech of Miami, Oklahoma and Roberta Phillips of Mutual, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Greg Bish and his wife Gina, Matt Bish and his wife Megan, Ben Bish and his wife Kathleen, Jennifer Bish, and Melissa Bish and her fiance Jim Lewis.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles Bish Sr. on October 4, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at th United Methodist Church in Longton, Kansas with Pastor Dena Allison officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Interment will be at the Longton Cemetery, Longton, Kansas.  Family suggests memorial contributions to the Longton United Methodist Church or charity of choice and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
