Mariellen Mize, age 86, a resident of Eureka, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Howard Twilight Manor, Howard, Kansas.  She was born on September 21, 1923 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Henry and Clara (Moor) Strickler.

In December of 1939, Mariellen was united in marriage to Reeve William Mize in Pawnee, Oklahoma.  For many years, Mariellen worked for the Eureka School District as a bus driver and a cook.  She enjoyed watching children play baseball and softball in the summertime, working on word search puzzles, quilting, and embroidering.  Mariellen was a member of the Severy Baptist Church in Severy, Kansas and the Red Hat Society in Eureka, Kansas.

Mariellen is survived by one son, Lyle Mize of Severy, Kansas; six daughters, Verda Sullivan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Vicky Heater of Howard, Kansas, Veda Worford of Auburne, Kansas, Verla Myers of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Vestella Hess of Nescatunga, Oklahoma, and Velda Mize of Snohomish, Washington; one brother, Arthur Charles Strickler of Eureka, Kansas; and one sister, Edna Dwiggins of Vallejo, California,; sixteen grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Reeve W. Mize.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009 at the South Lawn Cemetery near Severy, Kansas with the Rev. Tony Pameticky officiating.  Visitation will be held at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas on Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and may be sent to Zimmerman Funeral Home, P.O.
