Alpha A. Johnson of Howard, Kansas, age 86, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born January 10, 1923, one of seven children to Joseph L. and Polly (Parrott) Johnson. 

Alpha was a graduate of Inola, Oklahoma High School.  In 1940, she married Johnny M. Johnson.  Alpha worked occasionally as a substitute teacher; however she mostly worked at her home taking care of her family.  Alpha and Johnny were married for 38 years until his death in August of 1979.  Alpha enjoyed all types of outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, and skiing with her family.  She is remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Alpha is survived by two sons, Harold M. Johnson of Moline, Kansas and Howard W. Johnson of Howard, Kansas; one sister, Pauline Stout of Lathop, California; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Ronald D. Johnson, two brothers, and three sisters.

Cremation has been requested.  The family plans to have a memorial service at a later date.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Howard Area Lions International or Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under th direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, P.O. A Memorial Service for Alpha Johnson will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Howard United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Cryderman will preside.
