He is still alive. I loved the 3 shows that took turns for awhile. Columbo, Mc Millian and Wife and McCloud.

W. Gray

I never watched any of his TV episodes but in my mind his most memorable performance came in the 1965 Great Race in which he played Maximillian Meen alongside Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate.

Prior to that he was in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

He was a well known character actor prior to Mad World and he was well received as a comedy actor.

People, I think, liked him because of his distinguished gaze, which included a glass eye.

Charlton Heston was picked for the lead role but had to bow out, and Tony Curtis bowed in.

All of the old cars in the movie were custom built.

The western town is named "Borracho" which is supposed to be Spanish for "drunk" or "drunkard."

Hollywood was still rather innocent in 1965 and one of the most memorable lines was when all four were stranded on a very small iceberg and Natalie Wood was fixing breakfast, the last of their beans, she yelled "Come and get it" from the canvas enclosed car she was in with Tony Curtis. Jack Lemmon or Peter Falk were in their car and one whispered to the other "Maybe she don't mean us." The audience howled with laughter.

I saw this movie at the Pacific Pantages theater in Los Angeles at the 2:30 am showing, if you can believe that. If it was not sold out, it was close.
