I found this interesting.

In watching primary returns on cable, I noticed something I had not observed before. From the maps used by both Fox and MSNBC, it looked like the west part of the state of Maryland was separated from the eastern part by the state of West Virginia. I seemed to recall, though, from childhood days USA puzzle pieces for Maryland were one piece.

Pulling up a map of Maryland, it shows that Maryland is contiguous from east to west but at the area of Hancock, Maryland, is only 2.16 miles tall at its narrowest driveable part. Within those 2.16 miles, one will have traveled in three states, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
