Betty L. Palmer, 82, of Peru, died Tuesday at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Peru First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Carr officiating.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research or Peru First United Methodist Church, and they may be left with the funeral home.

Mrs. Palmer was born May 2, 1925 in Howard, to Samuel and Alvina (Luff) Mayne.  She graduated from Severy High School.

She married Merle E. Palmer on Oct. 5, 1941 in Sedan.  They moved to Peru in 1953, and he died in 1997.

Mrs. Palmer worked as the school secretary for the Peru schools and later at Sedan Elementary School for 30 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of Peru United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreigh Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons, Merle A. "Tony" Palmer, Bartlesville, Okla., Larry Palmer, Peru, and Martin Palmer, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Kathrine Von Cannon, Peru; two sisters, Coletta Vancil, Fall River, and Juanita Redman, Topeka; eight grandchildren and 12 great-granchildren.

Sorry to hear of Betty's passing.  I knew most of that family (her generation).
