Hand Lotion Recipe

1/2 Gill Rose Water
1/2 Gill Alcohol
1/2 Gill Glycerine
1/8 Ounce Gum Tragacanth
1 Pint Rain Water

Mix first three ingredients. Soak gum in water overnight.  Mix all together for use.

This is a hand written recipe of my grandmother.

Do people today know how much 1/2 a gill is? I think it's 2oz.

Ole Granny

English measurement equal to 1/2 cup

Sorry, I thought a liquid gill was 4oz. I stand corrected.

I'm sorry.  You are correct.  I meant a gill is 1/2 cup or 4 oz.  One-half gill would be 1/4 cup or 2 oz.

I'll bet that would be a good lotion to make.  My Aunt Nina worked for Dr. A. Y. Wells for years and I remember she always used Chamberlains Lotaion, which I believe had glycerin and rose water in it.  Doubt that it is even made anymore.
