Emma Hays, daughter of Samual and Jane Hays, was born near Manhatten, Kansas, October 4th, 1866, and departed from us at St. Mary's hospital at Winfield, April 30, 1937.
She grew to young womanhood at the place of her birth and on February 27, 1889, was united in marriage to Hiram Signer, who preceded her in death on August 22, 1923.  To this union were born five children, Walter and Frank Signer of Howard, Mrs. C. A. Wemmer of Grenola, Mrs. F. L. Young of Howard. Others who mourn her departure are six sisters, one brother, seven grandchildren and a host of friends.
Early in life Mrs. Signer embraced the teachings of her Saviour Jesus Christ, and her life was one of the sweetest examples of the Christian way.  She was an ideal mother and a splendid neighbor.  To know her was to love her.  Her beautiful smile will long be remembered.  Our greatest comfort is in her loyalty and love for her faith in Christ to the end.
Funeral services were held at the family home south of Howard at 2:30 p. m., Sunday May 2nd, by Miss Olive Sloan.  Burial was in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
