McCoy Paroled

Governor Hodges has paroled William McCoy who shot his wife in Longton in 1904.  The parole is dated May 12, just 9 years from the day when he went into prison.

McCoy killed his wife, formerly Miss Cora Palmer, at her mother's home and turned the pistol on himself with the result of a slight wound on the side of his head.

McCoy's family have tried before to secure a parole or pardon for him but the protests from Longton have overcome their efforts.  In this instance the first intimation Longton citizens had of it was the announcement in the dailies that the parole was granted---Longton Gleaner
