   Mary Jane Nix,86 years of age, died January 1, 1983, at the Howard Twilight Manor Nursing Home.  She was born on December 3, 1896, near Cave Springs in Elk County, Kansas, to Charles Elmore and Ida May Greenwood Alderson.  Mary was a housewife and mother who lived her entire life as a resident of Elk County.
   She grew to womanhood neat Cave Springs and gradated from the eighth grade in the rural schools.  On December 22, 1916, she was united in marriage to George Myers and they lived near Grenola, Kansas.  He died in 1932.
   After his death, she moved her family to Piedmont and on August 7, 1935, she united in marriage with George Nix at Eureka, Kansas.  They operated a farm near Howard until moving into town around 1950.  Mr. Nix preceded her in death.  Mary has been a resident of the Twilight Manor for six years.
   She was a member of the Church of Christ in Howard.
   Mary is survived by a son, Glenn E. Myers of Anza, California, a step-son, George Nix of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Roach of Wichita, Mrs. Marie Yates of Sedan, and Mrs. Phyllis Knabe of Golden, Colorado, a step-daughter, Mrs Ellouise Nix Williams of Chanute; a sister Mrs. Hattie Miller of Howard; twelve grandchildren. twenty eight great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
   Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, January 4, 1983, in the Zimmerman Funeral Home with Bernard Smith of the Howard Church of Christ officiating.  Mrs. Louis Morgan sang the vocal selections and Mrs. Robin Smith was the organist.  The Casket bearers were Larry Yates, Robert Yates, Mike Hull, Ronald Scrimager, Floyd Myers and Sonny Guyman.  Interment was held in the Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard.  The funeral services were arranged by the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
