Ya'll know how most of us enjoy reading about what happened in days gone by out of the area newspapers, in the way of historical items to researching our ancestors. 8)  Searching the newspapers is a valuable tool in research.  Since there seems to be "almost zilch" in the Flint Hills Express these days about the area, Historical or family happenings, etc., there won't be much for your grandchildren or great-grandchildren to read about.  :(  As of right now, about all they will have to go on is census records, or what ever may be found in the courthouse.  :(   Nope!  Won't be any use to look in the newspapers..........not any clues there.

It used to be where families wrote letters and many a clue or information could be found in old letters.  (I have personally kept some old letters that are over 100 years old).  But since no one writes letters anymore, your descendants won't be finding anything there eiither. :(  No one wants to leave any trail or happy tracks for their descendants to follow.  How sad!

Is there any one in Howard turning things in? We are having trouble getting our paper here in Auburn, but I have noticed there is little to nothing about Howard and what is going on. It would be nice to even read about the baseball scores. (when it has not been raining).

I take both the Howard and the Sedan papers, which are both put out by the same people.  The papers are getting to be almost identical, having a large percent of the same news items, the same feature stories, the editorials are the same, the advertisements are the same, the obituaries are the same, etc.  About the only difference I can find in the two newspapers are the various community news items, put out by correspondents.  And those news items are gone for the northern Elk County area.  The Moline correspondent sure does a nice job, though.

I send in some of the school news - the stuff I'm aware of, like the music, some of the scholars bowls and forensics (not all, because I don't go to all those events).

I also have sent in some of the Lions and some of the Methodist church articles.

The staff at the paper have told me they are eager for information, and will print most of what is sent in. Sometimes articles wait a week before being printed.

I don't want to be a "reporter" and have to cover events - I just send in what I'm interested in or what I can document with pictures.

We don't have anyone putting in the Howard news.  The Moline lady does a good job because she can sit at home and call people to get news.  People don't drop news off for her.  She calls and gets it, which is great because she can.
