Judy Kay Schouten, age 72, a longtime resident of Leon, Kansas, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 8, 2022 at her new residence in Douglass, Kansas.  She was born October 10, 1949 in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, the only brown-eyed daughter of Louis Connard and Grace Marie (Griffith) Sharp.

After Judy's father retired from the military service, the family spent a brief time in Wichita, Kansas before settling in Howard, Kansas.  Judy enjoyed growing up in the Howard, Kansas community with her large family that included 8 siblings.  She was involved in many school activities during her youth and graduated from Howard High School with the Class of 1968.  During her youth, she liked working as a waitress at the Plaza Grill owned by Fred and Babe Rhoades.

After high school, Judy worked as a telephone operator in El Dorado, Kansas.  She married her longtime sweetheart, Kenn Robert Schouten, on May 2, 1969 in Latham, Kansas.  The couple had two daughters, Tonya Renee born January 17, 1970 and Kimberly Kay born June 23, 1971.

In 1971, Judy and Kenn moved to Leon, Kansas where Kenn worked for the refinery in El Dorado, Kasnas and for local rancher, Robert Patterson.  Judy devoted her life to raising her family, gardening, and assisting her husband on the farm.  She had many passions including caring for animals, even those she found injured in the wild, and gardening.  She was an extremelyh talented artist.  The great loves of Judy's life were her husband and her grandchidlren. 

Judy is survived by her daughters, Tonya (Herb) Budd of Leon, Kanss and Kimberly (Tim) McCune of Douglass, Kasnas; siblings, Martin (Pam) Sharp of Wichita, Kansas, Connie (Ronald P.) Shipman of Marion, Kansas, Myrna (Tom) Leckliter of El Dorado, Kansas, Linda Loebeck of Augusta, Kansas, and Robert (Cindy) Sharp of Severy, Kansas; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Apryl) Vancil, Justin (Miranda) Vancil, Natasha (Damon) Bing, Nikole Babb, Samuel Babb, Connor (Nellie) McCune, and Molly McCune; and great-grandchildren, Payton, Emma and Levi Vancil, Lincoln and Olivia Vancil, Bently Tong, Bryce and Waylong Bing, Hadleight Babb, and Lucille McCune.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenn Robert Schouten; her parents, Louis and Grace Sharp; her half-sister, Joan (Noakes) Karsting; her half-brother, Richard Noakes; and her sister, Sharon (Sharp) Schouten. 

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Leon Christian Church in Leon, Kansas.  Burial will follow in Quito Cemetery in Butler County, Kansas.  Carlson Colonial Funeral Home of El Dorado, Kansas has been entrusted with arrangements.
