Jess Lee Hornbuckle Jr., 77, of Howard, died Saturday at his home.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Moline Cemetery with Pastor Robin Haines of the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church officiating.

Friends may call at Zimmerman Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the DaVita Winfield Dialysis Center, and they may be left with the funeral home.

Mr. Hornbuckle was born on June 28, 1929 near Grenola to Jess and Ines (Hayden) Hornbuckle.  He attended area schools and after completing his education he became an oil field worker.

On Jan. 29, 1948, he married Bettie Bruner in Independence, and she survives.

The family moved to Newton in 1960 where he owned and operated the A&W Root Beer Drive-In.  In the late 1960s, they moved to Hutchinson, where he founded the Horn and Buckle Steakhouse.  He later commuted to Dodge City where he owned the Horn and Buckle Steakhouse at the Dodge City Airport.  Mr. Hornbuckle became a truck driver in the late 1970s, and moved to Arkansas where he was employed by A&P Truck Lines.

The couple made their home in Yarborough Landing Village near Ashdown, Ark., until moving to Howard in 2003.

Mr. Hornbuckle was a life member of the Kansas Trap Shooter Association and the National Trap Shooter Association.

Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Hornbuckle, Howard; a son, Steven Hornbuckle, Hutchinson; and two grandchildren.
