Donald Dean Chaplin of Piedmont, Kansas passed away October 31, 2020 at the Robert J. Dole VA Hospital in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 84.  He was born May 13, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Veryl Aaron and Esther Cecelia (Kretchmar) Chaplin.

Don lost his father at age 3 and lived with his grandparents until his mother remarried.  He the moved to Waverly, Kansas where he was raised on the farm and then graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Kansas.  Following his graduation, Don joined the United States Army where he served with honor and dignity.  Upon completion of his service, he returned home where he maried Vienna Marie Henley on November 26, 1960 in Burlington, Kansas.  Together they raised three children.  The family lived in Waverly, Kansas before moving to Climax, Kansas in 1973.  Don farmed in the Climax area before moving to Piedmont, Kansas in 1982 where he farmed until his retirement. 

Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka, Kansas and Carter-Rader American Legion Post #149 in Howard, Kansas. 

Don is survived by his children, Harlan (Jaylene) Chaplin of Fredonia, Kansas, Francis (Sunni) Chaplin of Piedmont, Kansas, and Glenda Chaplin and wife, Stephanie Mitchell of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Travis Vaughn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jaimie (Nathan) Greenwood of Council Grove, Kansas, and Baily and Braxton Chaplin of Fredonia, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Natalie Vaughn; and seven siblings, Larry (Sallee) Hess of Waverly, Kansas, Dale (Barbara) Hess of Lake Spivey, Georgia, Wayne Hess of Waverly, Kansas, Sherlyn Graham of Wichita, Kansas, Marilyn (Gene) Eccles of Waverly, Kansas, Norma (Dale) Stagner of Wichita, Kansas, and Joyce (Dwight) Krueger of Lebo, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vienna, on May 6, 2001.

Cremation has been effected.  A private family inurnment will take place at the Piedmont Cemetery in Piedmont, Kansas at a later date.  Koup Family Funeral of Eureka, Kansas has been entrusted with arrangements.
