How Did Our Society Get To This Point?

A cop SWAT team elevates the situation and blows up a half million dollar house to catch a shoplifter. Just how in the h*ll is that justified as protecting the public? Just what did the jerk shoplift? The Governor's Mercedes?

"After Seacat, who refused to surrender, fired on police, officers brought in a SWAT team that fired gas munition and 40-millimeter rounds through the windows, punched through doors with an armored vehicle and blew out walls with explosives and flash-bang grenades. 40mm rounds? That is 3 times the size of 50 caliber machine gun rounds. This is a police state action, this is fear mongering the slaves, er the citizens. And none of it was warranted.

Reminds me of My Lai Massacre, out of control uniforms over reacting without thinking.
