Katherine O. Mitchell, age 82, of Howard, Kansas, passed away June 24, 2018 at her home.  She was born June 20, 1936 to John "Jack" and Dorothy (Applegate) Van Buskirk in Howard, Kansas. 

Katherine spent her entire life in the Howard community, and on June 12, 1955, she married Nolan Mitchell.  Over the next 63 years, Katherine and Nolan owned many different businesses ranging from a retail florist shop to an Oil and Gas distribution company.

Katherine was a friend, mother, and grandmother to everyone she met or came in contact with.  She loved to cook and take care of her family.  She was a member of the Howard Independent Baptist Church where she loved going to church and singing in the choir.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Nolan of the home; sons, Kenneth and Mary Mitchell of Howard, Kansas, Kevin and Melinda Mitchell of Howard, Kansas, and Kurtis and Julie Mitchell of Emporia, Kansas; daughter, Kathy and Kent Allison of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother, Garry Van Buskirk of El Dorado, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her  brother, Jackie Van Buskirk; her sister, Deloris Cline;  one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home with burial to follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested in Katherine's name to the Howard Independent Baptist Church and can be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 which is in charge of arrangements.
