Joyce M. Doane passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018 surrounded by family.  She was 79 years old.  She was a resident of the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas.  Joyce was born December 14, 1938 on the family farm near Howard, Kansas to Richard and Lucille (Stonebraker) Jacobs.

Joyce attended Upper Paw Paw School and graduated from Severy High School in 1957.  She trained as a nurse aide at the State Hospital in Winfield, Kansas and later continued her education at WATC, earning her Dietary Management certification in 1986.

Joyce married Melvin Doane on September 1, 1961 in Severy, Kansas.  They had five children, Mary, Calvin, Amy, Bobbie, and Frank.  Joyce enjoyed raising their children on the farm near Severy, Kansas.  She loved watching her grandchildren grow up and cherished her great-grandchildren.  She was fond of cross-stitching gifts for those she knew, and she won many ribbons at the Greenwood County Fair.  Joyce took delight in maintaining flower and vegetable gardens for many years.  She also enjoyed going to the casino with her sister, Ruth, on occasion.  Joyce was also a member of the Severy United Methodist Church in Severy, Kansas.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Melvin Doane; her children, son-in-law, Eldon Austin, Calvin Doane and companion, Paula of Kiowa, Kasnas, Amy Lance and husband, Chris of Winfield, Kansas, Bobbie Coldwell and husband, Richard of Fort Worth, Texas, and Frank Doane and Tammy of Howard, Kansas; grandchildren, Leigha, Lacie, Megan, and Ashley; step-grandchildren, Mike, Candy, Patrick, Jeremy, Misty, Courtney, Kendra, Cara, Sondra, and Tara; great-grandchildren, Zoie, Kellen, IraLynn, AereAna, Eddie, and Jakob; 20 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Jacobs of Milan, Kansas, Henry Jacobs of Howard, Kansas, and Cecil Jacobs of Augusta, Kansas; and one sister, Ruth Gordon of Winfield, Kansas.   Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lucille Jacobs; her daughter, Mary Doane; and her grandsons, Christopher Austin and Brendan Nally.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Severy United Methodist Church in Severy, Kansas.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time.  Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to either the Chris Austin Memorial Fund or the Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas.  Memorials may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
