James M. Mattocks was born on September 19, 1940 in Wauneta, Kansas to Vernon Henry and Hazel Ellen (Fike) Mattocks.  He passed away on November 7, 2017 at the age of 77.

James graduated from Cedar Vale High School in Cedar Vale, Kansas and enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in 1962. He went on to work for C.E. NATCO for 17 years before retiring from Tulco Oils Company where he was a driver. 

James married Virginia Allison-Ashby, and their union was blessed with two daughters.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  He adored his family and loved spending time with them.  James, the eldest of nine siblings, enjoyed returning to Kansas to visit his family members there.  In his younger years, James enjoyed square dancing with his beloved wife and dance partner, Virginia.  He also liked to go fishing and play dominoes with friends at the Senior Center.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, once again serving his country and fellow veterans. 

James is survived by his wife, Virginia Mattocks of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his children, Vickie Miller of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sherry Duncan and husband, Terry of Coweta, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Adam Gross of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nathan Gross and wife, Heather of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Michael Gross of Coweta, Oklahoma; his great-grandchild, Grace Gross; his brothers, Oscar Mattocks of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Bob Mattocks of Great Bend, Kansas, and Keith Mattocks of Winfield, Kansas; and his sisters, Elaine Stewart of Moline, Kansas, Marilyn Strole of Clovis, New Mexico, Marie Chunn of Thomasville, Alabama, and Jane Ann Mitchell.  James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Marvin Mattocks.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.  Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be made to Broken Arrow Seniors, Inc., 1800 S. Main Street, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012 or to First United Methodist Church Missions, 112 E. College Street, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hayhurst Funeral Home of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
