July 1912: An unidentified newspaper item indicates that Don Brittain was actually captured in December 1911 soon after the death of Maude Bingham and was charged with murder. According to this article he escaped from jail in Elk County. This is the only article I have found that mentions a capture and subsequent escape. This same article says that in July 1912 a $200 reward was offered for his capture. The Elk County Sheriff sent a deputy to Wichita to confer with the police department and leave a description as it was thought he was hiding in Wichita.

$200 in 1912 money is worth a little over $5,000, today.

June 1912 . An article appearing in the Coffeyville Journal said that a it seemed little effort had been made to trace Brittain and that it was understood several people knew where he was.

Have never found any subsequent information after September 19, 1913, concerning Don Brittain.
