Irene Alice Julian, age 89, passed away March 4, 2017 of complications from a stroke.  She was currently residing in California.  Born on the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada, she was the youngest of three children.

As an adult, Irene lived in Vancouver, Canada where she met her first husband and had two children.  They moved to California in 1958, and her husband, unfortunately passed away in 1966.  In 1976, she met Russ Julian, fell in love, and got married.  In 1979 she moved with Russ to Moline, Kansas where Russ's family lived.

In Moline, Irene worked at a doctor's office prior to becoming the City Clerk of Moline.  She was very proud and humbled to serve everyone in the community.  She was also an active member in the Moline Christian Church, Gideon's, American Legion, and the Republican Women's organization where she helped to promote political candidates.

With the sorrow of the passing of Russ in August 2011, she said goodbye to her cherished friends and family and grandchildren and moved to California in the summer of 2012.  There she was once again able to be close to her daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren.

Irene was very active in the senior apartments where she lived, participating in every activity offered:  exercise classes, walking, gospel singing groups, and community outings, but one of her favorites was walking on the beach a few times a week.  She was a very active member in the local Presbyterian Church and Gideon's.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Moline Christian Church in Moline, Kansas where Pastor Stan Rumbaugh will officiate.  Irene's remains will be interred at the Moline City Cemetery at a later date.  Irene's loving Kansas family members suggest in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideon's International.  Checks to Gideon's may be collected at the service.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.

Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
