Waldon E "Mac" McCoy, age 95, died September 7, 2016 at Quaker Hill Manor in Lowell, Kansas following an illness.  Mac was born July 5, 1921 in Miami, Oklahoma, the son of Charlie Louis and Anna Augusta (Lycio) McCoy.

Mac graduated from Riverton High School in Riverton, Kansas with the Class of 1939.  He then attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, Kansas and excelled in football, being named to the All-Conference football team.  He earned his Master's degree in Education at the college in 1959.  He worked in education in southeast Kansas, serving as Superintendent in Moline, Kansas and Cherryvale, Kansas, high school Principal in Galena, Kansas, and as grade school Principal at Chetopa, Kansas, retiring in 1985.

Mac served in the United States Navy during World War II between the years of 1942 and 1946.  He was married to Marjorie Louise Breitenbucher in 1946 in Berkeley, California.  After her passing, he married Clara Ruth (Smith) West on May 8, 2008 in Miami, Oklahoma.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Galena, Kansas.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Baxter Springs, Kansas, the Shrine in Pittsburg, Kansas, and the Scottish Rites in Ft. Scott, Kansas.  He had been an active member of the Baxter Springs Lions Club.  His interests included hunting, fishing, and gardening. 

Surviving is one son, Chris (Joy) McCoy of Nixa, Missouri; one stepson, Ted (Carrie) Schmid of Lorraine, Kansas; four grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Bailey of Carl Junction, Missouri, David (Jessica) McCoy of Springfield, Missouri, Jason (Delisa) Fryer of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Lisa Hoffman of Springfield, Missouri; one step-grandddaughter, Robyn (Chuck) O'Malley of Scammon, Kansas; one nephew, Alan (Julie) McCoy of Rapid City, South Dakota; one niece, Dixie Miller of Little Rock, California; and his sister-in-law, Treva Nunn of Baxter Springs, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie in January 2006; his second wife, Clara on January 7, 2016; his daughter, Anne Louise Carnes; his sister, Goldie Milholland, and two brothers, Curtis McCoy and Carmond McCoy.

Cremation has been effected.  A memorial service was held September 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Galena, Kansas with Pastor Jeff Swart officiating.  He was laid to rest beside his first wife in Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Galena, Kansas.  Derfelt Funeral Home, 1116 S. Main Street, Galena, Kansas 66739, was in charge of arrangements.
