Junior Henry Pape, age 87, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.  He was born June 2, 1929 in rural Alta Vista, Kansas, the son of Henry Walter and Minnie Christina (Kahle) Pape.

Junior attended Climax High School in Climax, Kansas.  His teenage years were spent helping his father and older brothers farm and raise livestock in the Severy, Kansas area.  He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, was a driller in the oil fields, and worked for Benest Oil Company in Severy.  In 1960, he moved his family to Sedan, Kansas where he and his wife became owners of the Pape's Conoco Service Station.  Later, they purchased the Keeney's Restaurant in Sedan.  He helped put in the first public water system to serve the city of Chautauqua, Kansas.  He served as Chautauqua County Sheriff from 1972 to 1976.  He worked for Union Gas Company and  also pipelined on the road for a couple of years as well as working for Gary Cole and Art Thomas at auctions for over 20 years.  Upon retiring, he became self-employed raising cattle in the Sedan area.

Junior married Clara Yetta Gragg on October 11, 1947 at the Greenwood County Courthouse in Eureka, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on July 19, 1979.  He then married Jeanette (Wall) Hart on August 2, 1980 in Sedan.  She survives at the home.

Other survivors include his sons, Galen Junior Pape and wife, Linda (Storer) of Derby, Kansas, Gragg Pape and wife, Teresa (Smith) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Hart and wife, Tonya (Hartness) of Bowring, Oklahoma; his daughter, Annette "Sissy" (Hart) Lambdin and fiance Mike Marshall of Caney, Kansas; one brother, Dave Pape of Fort Morgan, Colorado; nine grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clara Yetta; his brothers, Walter Carl Pape and Daniel Edwin Pape; his sister, Henryetta Opal Craig; and his granddaughter, Marisha Michelle Pape.

Family and friends may call on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.  Church services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Sedan, Kansas with Pastor John Warring and Pastor Gary Cole officiating.  Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.  The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Christian Church in Sedan and may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
