John Oliver Collins, the Mayor of Elk Falls, Kansas, passed away suddenly at age 56 on July 12, 2016.  John, who was an entrepreneur and world traveler, was born May 26, 1960 to parents Oliver Oscar and Allison Crumm (Hatfield) Collins in Englewood, Colorado.

John was a self-employed businessman who loved to read and was an avid rock hunter.  His knowledge and his dreams took him many places, one of which led him to the Philippines where he met and married his wife, Edsy (Calatrava) Collins on October 22, 2007, who resides at their home in Elk Falls.  To this union was born a daughter, Allison, who was the love of John's life.  He was a very devoted and proud father.

With his talents and skills, John was able to work as an electrician and carpenter when needed and was also a wonderful cook.  He loved garage sales and never met a stranger.  He could start a conversation with just about anyone.  He was also devoted to his dogs who were like family to him.  John was very active in the Elk Falls Senior Group and helped often with their Thursday dinners.

John is survived by his wife, Edsy, and daughter, Allison, of Elk Falls, Kansas; his mother, Allison; his brothers, Michael Collins (Wilda) of Milliken, Colorado, and Jack Collins (Rebecca) of Platteville, Colorado; his sisters, Melody Buescher (Gene) of Springdale, Arkansas, Robin Collins of Sedan, Kansas, and Rebeka Eck (Paul) of Elk Falls, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Collins.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Chapel in Elk Falls, Kansas.  Interment will follow at the Elk Falls Cemetery in Elk Falls, Kansas.  Family suggests memorials to the Elk Falls Senior Center which may be left with the funeral home.
