Jimmie Lynn "Jim" McElwain, 67, a resident of Burden, Kansas, passed away on October 9, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.  He was born on February 8, 1948 in Independence, Kansas, the son of John D. and Wanda A. McElwain.

Jim served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Skagit AKA-105 (Attack Cargo Ship).  He was a certified welder and ironworker for over 30 years.  Once he retired, he operated his automotive business with his wife. 

Jim was the devoted husband of Elaine (Baumgartel) McElwain for 44 years.  He married his lovely wife in 1971.  He adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and most recently, his great-grandchildren.  He took great pride in his family, and to his family and friends, Jim was a mountain of a man with loyalty and integrity who was known for helping people out.  He will be deeply missed by all. 

In addition to his wife, Elaine McElwain, Jim is survived by his children, Tracey and David Rosario of Wichita, Kansas, Michelle Hughes of Winfield, Kansas, Terry and Julia McElwain of Murrieta, California, Travis and Jennifer McElwain of Redlands, California, and James and Karrie McElwain of Wichita, Kansas; his siblings, Jean McLaughlin of Menifee, California, Jan Emler of Elden, Missouri, Genneth Moon of Topeka, Kansas, Judy Skipper of Whitesburg, Georgia, and John McElwain of Elk City, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, Timothy Rosario, Nicole Rosario, Jimmie Hughes, Ean Hughes, Jordan Hughes, Svetlana McElwain, Reidar McElwain, Kaiden McElwain, Kaston McElwain, Kolton McElwain, Beau McElwain, and Ty McElwain; and 7 great-grandchildren, Wynter, Peyton, and Railynn Hughes, Jovian Rosario, Zemir Witherspoon, and Moriah and Eden Rosario.  Jim is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Wanda Marie and Twila Loraine McElwaine.

A memorial service will be held in the near future and will be announced when scheduled.

Elaine Baumgartel McElwain, wife of Jim McElwain, grew up in Howard, Kansas and is the daughter of the late Dale and Bertha Baumgartel and sister of John, Roger, and Marlin Baumgartel.

Memorial services and Military Committal Honors for Jimmie Lynn "Jim" McElwain will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.
