Melvin O. Kolterman, 94, of Onaga, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Eastridge Nursing Facility in Centralia, Kansas.  He was born October 27, 1920 on a farm north of Onaga, the son of Otto and Bertha Kolterman.

Melvin graduated from Onaga High School and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio control tower operator.  He married Lorena L. Bosse on March 16, 1952 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas. He was a farmer, stockman, and dairyman.  He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Duluth, Kansas where he held many leadership roles and served on numerous boards.  He also served on the U.S.D. #322 school board for twelve years and was president for four years.  He was a Trustee for the Mill Creek Township for twelve years and a member of Onaga V.F.W. Post #7772.  Melvin's passion in life was fishing.  If there was a storm coming in , he had a line in the water.

Survivors include three sons, David Kolterman of Onaga, Kansas, Dan Kolterman and wife, Robin of Havensville, Kansas, and Mark Kolterman and wife, Teresa of Onaga, Kansas; two daughters, Cathy (Kate) Perkins and husband, Gene of Howard, Kansas, and Marian Bolz and husband, Tim, of Topeka, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena on May 26, 2009; his parents; and two brothers, Vernon Kolterman and Lyle Kolterman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duluth, Kansas.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.  Melvin will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, Kansas where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Home and may be sent in care of the funeral Home, P.O.
