This Would Never Have Happened in Montana

The mass murder at a Charleston, South Carolina church that occurred yesterday would never have happened the way it did if just one person there was armed and knew how to use his firearm.  This horrible incident is another example of what Thomas Sowell calls "the legacy of liberalism," which he says ranks up there with "the legacy of slavery" in terms of the harm it has done to black Americans.  I was reminded of the stark contrast of that South Carolina church full of black liberals and a church service I attended last summer in Kalispell, Montana where the pastor (Chuck Baldwin) told me that about three fourths of the people there were carrying firearms.  You'll never hear of people being gunned down like rabid dogs in Chuck Baldwin's church.

Is this what it is going to come to? The only solution is for everyone to be armed to the teeth in case there is a nut case around? That still doesn't prevent the first shot or even more before the armed people, police, guards or who ever would shoot to kill. And don't try to tell me the shooter wouldn't try because of the guns there. That has already been proven not to prevent attacks. They already happen when there are known guns around and the shooter doesn't care if he dies or not.
I think it is already  also causing too many police officers to shoot too soon because of the assumption of guns now. Even here ,in Wilmington, there is at least one shooting every day. The rough "youth" and young adults all carry now, and they jump to weapon use quicker than ever. They are lousy shots too. They hit innocent bystanders.  It's time to do checks at the door like is done all over Great Britain. Very sad.
The mother of a friend of ours was killed in a bar years ago. She was the bartender and not the intended victim. She died just the same. I know of another one where a woman had a gun in her purse. She dropped it and the gun went off, shooting through the purse and killing a nearby person. What about those? Does one just say oh, well, so be it?
Now kids are bringing guns to school, not to use in school, but to be able to defend themselves from home to the bus stop and from the bus stop back home.Isn't that terrible?I hear all kinds of romantic gun slinging solutions and none of them work.I am personally getting discouraged. I've never been for gun control .it doesn't work. But then what IS the answer? Blockade our houses and hide? Even when good people shoot, the bad guy isn't always the victim, or the only victim. Is all this worth the innocent lives lost no matter what? I sure don't know any more.
I certainly don't know the answer, and I'm too old to be of much help, but somebody better figure out something that actually works, and do it soon! ...Getting down from my box. Not that anyone is reading this. HA!

I'll tell you what works.  It's been around for years.  It's the 2nd Amendment and the rest of the Constitution if people will just stay with it like our founding fathers established the USA.  The 2nd Amendment is in the Bill of Rights and you're for taking more of our American liberty in the name of saving lives by imposing tyranny upon all of us throughout the land.

I know men who take their Bible to church and I know men who take their gun to church.

The Republicans and reconstructed Democrats (and moderate independents) have perverted this country and they're not done yet.  I'll stay with how this country was founded with the founding fathers.

Diane, I'm agreeing with you, you don't know what works.

Diane Amberg

Are you blind? Reread my line 16. I SAID gun control doesn't work! You are so quick to jump to conclusions as to who I am and how I feel about things you get it wrong every time.
I'm not suggesting taking away anything from safe, sane, well adjusted adults, but on private property the owner should be able to decide... guns, yes or no.
Don't you dare shake the Bill of Rights at ME bub.You know you want it just for yourself and the heck with everyone else, right? (The same with voting rights)
.    Gun classes and training should be made law, except, as with all this, how does one enforce it?
One does not have the right to carry into a bank! and the bank will enforce it for obvious reasons. You can't, as a civilian, open carry on a plane or public transportation either....for good reason. It is very unsettling to those around. They will immediately start wondering if you are a show off cuckoo.
The violently mentally ill,  unsupervised children, repeat violent criminals and felons have no business with guns, period. Heck, I don't want them to have knives either.Too bad if it's inconvenient.
Being shot at, not in a war zone, is not a romantic dream -about- what- you- would -do- if- someone- pulls-a- gun- on- you scenario. It's very serious and it happens every day and it happens extremely fast. If you don't believe it, think about the drive by or a person shot while just sitting in their car. There is no time to react. It's an ambush!
The big cities are the worst of course. Don't go where the rough sections are. Every decent person knows where to stay clear of.
My one doc friend is an ER doc in a huge hospital the rough part of Philly.  They call their ER "The Knife and Gun Club." He can tell stories that would scare even you.  You seem to be totally naive about the real situation.
I rode our ambulance for almost 40 years. Ask me how many violent shootings, stabbings and stranglings, deliberate run overs, fatal arsons and beat- to- deaths we had? and that was just us! I won't even start on the drug connection to the violence. Do you think any of them spend one moment thinking about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights? Is a spaced out drug user even aware of what he is doing?  Sure, let's let him carry. Nothing could go wrong there, now could it? Now, lets really fix it and put him behind the wheel.
I think you better hang out there in OZ where it's reasonably quiet, uncomplicated and story bookish. HA!  You can pretend to be a gun slinger and can day dream about what a big deal you are in your own mind.I'll bet you even practice drawing in a mirror. Sheesh!

Diane, as far as I know, you've had socialist leanings ever since I started reading your posts on this forum.

How many more classes and training is it going to take?  The government schools are not good training places for young people in America.  Cops get a lot training - how many more certifications and how much more socialist government training do they need?  Education and government has its grips on just about everything in this country.  The country gets worse and you want more action from the government and the liberals to control Americans.

I'm not much of a gunslinger but I do think it's a good idea that everybody ought to own a gun.  That's part of the foundation which the USA was founded as our founding fathers were against tyranny and for liberty.

Socialism is pro-tyranny.

Yup, the next time some nut shoots up a bunch of people, I'll ask the victims if they are now socialists or perhaps American Nazis.
You can go ask the teachers at the very conservative Baptist schools and colleges how they like being considered Socialists by people like you. They use and teach from the same guides the rest do.How do you think they learn to teach reading and math? Just like everyone else. American English spelling is the same everywhere. Even the worst bigots spell and do math just like everyone else.Where do you think they learn it?
Now there is this big push to opt out of standard testing. How else is a school board or a state congress going to know if they are getting their educational money's worth if there is never any comparable student evaluation? You are so far off to the right you fell off and have no clue how things really work.

Nazis are socialists.  Socialists are tyrants.  Why limit your asking to victims?

Suggest you expand the choices - ask if they prefer tyranny or liberty.  Ask yourself.

When will you ever say "No" to socialism?

Diane Amberg

Sorry fellow, I've always been a willing middle of the road, very independent Christian humanist. I don't much care what the rest do. At my age I don't need to climb the barricade and sing songs from Les Mis. I know how to get my way and have done so many times. I don't have to shake weapons or make threats to do it.
There are  people out there just looking for reasons to make trouble. They constantly stir the pot and don't know any other way to have changes come about except being nasty about it. Remember the old fable about the sun and the wind? I'm the sun.
Constant complainers who pick and poke but never have real workable solutions to what they see as wrong or unfair are useless.Their only contribution is to gripe endlessly and tiresomely, or come up with impossible "answers" with totally unrealistic, impossible ideas built on unsound or incorrect information. Who needs it?

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, Diane. Saying you are useless because you don't know the solution is kind of harsh.

Very funny... but true. Sadly, I'm just an old fogey now. But, I'll still send Teresa my fireworks donation as I have for the past 8 years. It makes me happy to know I'm donating to something my friends out there can enjoy.
