Robert Thomas Lanning, age 57, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home in Hays, Kansas.  He was born March 22, 1956 in Mt. Shasta, California to Bill and Dorothy (Iaconis) Lanning.

On October 22, 1977, he married Kim Hall in Wichita, Kansas.  He was a school photographer for Lifetouch for 15 years in Wichita, Salina, and Hays.  He also worked at RANS and Advanced Auto in Hays.  He was a member of the North Oak Community Church in Hays and was an avid collector of RC Airplanes, model trains, and toys.  He was always quick with a joke and loved to make people laugh.

Survivors include his wife, Kim of Hays, Kansas; one son, Joe Lanning of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Maggie Lanning of Sarasota, Florida; his mother, Dorothy Brewer of Howard, Kansas; and four brothers, Bill (Patsy) Lanning of Howard, Kansas,  Rick (Janice) Lanning of Liberal, Kansas, David (Cathy) Lanning of Cherryvale, Kansas, and Keith (Becky) Lanning of Independence, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by  his father, Bill Lanning.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.  Inurnment will be in the Cresco Cemetery north of Howard.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the donor's choice or Hays Medical Center Foundation.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com or at www.countrysidefh.com.
