Lois Lerner at House Hearing: "I Am Very Proud of the Work I Have Done in Government"...
...Then Pleads the Fifth
May 22, 2013, 9:43 AM

Then Lerner:
1.) Said she has done nothing wrong

2.) Blamed her subordinates for the targeting scandal, then...

3.) Pleaded the Fifth Amendment, (big mistake, Lois, for expressing 1. & 2....
expect to be called back by the committee for the grilling of your life.)

4.) Got up and left the room.

For Twenty-Seven months the Obama IRS refused to approve any Tea Party applications for tax-exempt status. At the same time the Obama IRS approved dozens of progressive applications. 500 conservative and Christian groups were illegally targeted by the Obama IRS.

Lois Lerner has a history of harassment and inappropriate religious inquiries.

Related... The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart.

Perhaps no other IRS official is more intimately associated with the tax agency's growing scandal than Lois Lerner, director of the IRS's Exempt Organizations Division. Since admitting the IRS harassed hundreds of conservative and Tea Party groups for over two years, Lerner has been criticized for a number of untruths.... http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/irss-lerner-had-history-harassment-inappropriate-religious-inquiries-fec_725004.html

....including the revelation that she apparently lied about planting a question at an American Bar Association conference where she first publicly acknowledged IRS misconduct.

IRS Scandal's Central Figure, Lois Lerner, Described as 'Apolitical'
by Caitlin Dickson May 14, 2013

"Lois Lerner is in the eye of the IRS–Tea Party firestorm. Caitlin Dickson reports on the 'apolitical' director of the IRS's Exempt Organizations Division—and whether she could have averted the scandal."

UPDATE:
House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) believes that the official in charge of the exempt division at the Internal Revenue Service waived her right to invoke the Fifth Amendment when she delivered an opening statement declaring her innocence at a congressional hearing Wednesday, intending to recall her back to testify once more.

"When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement," Issa told Politico. "She chose not to do so — so she waived."

In her opening statement, Lois Lerner claimed that she did not violate any laws before invoking the Fifth Amendment. Issa accepted her position and excused her, "subject to recall after we seek civic counsel."

"While I would very much like to answer the committee's questions today," Lerner said, "I've been advised by my counsel to assert my constitutional right not to testify or answer questions related to the subject matter of this hearing. After very careful consideration, I've decided to follow my counsel's advice and not testify or answer any of the questions today."

You gotta wonder which side are the Fed's on?  The socialists?

The Fed's feed money and programs to many of their own approved groups - their favorites - like the NGO's.
And some think that the groups like EK can do no wrong - afterall they were raised in Elk County and they're doing
it for the kids, the community and economic development.

Government ought to stand firmly for our liberty, instead of stealing it by and through their own supported groups.

Lois Lerner Directly Involved in IRS Targeting, Letters Show

By  Andrew Stiles May 23, 2013 6:49 PM

(Ridiculous they couldn't/didn't fire her... this will probably backfire and bite Obuma on the butt.  Can you say 'whistleblower' or 'hoosegow?')

A series of letters suggests that senior IRS official Lois Lerner was directly involved in the agency's targeting of conservative groups as recently as April 2012, more than nine months after she first learned of the activity.

Lerner, the director of the IRS exempt organizations office in Washington, D.C., signed cover letters to 15 conservative organizations currently represented by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) between in March and April of 2012. The letters, such as this one sent to the Ohio Liberty Council on March 16, 2012, informed the groups applying for tax-exempt status that the IRS was "unable to make a final determination on your exempt status without additional information," and included a list of detailed questions of the kind that a Treasury inspector general's audit found to be inappropriate. Some of the groups to which Lerner sent letters are still awaiting approval.

[...]

"One thing is clear: this correspondence shows [Lerner's] direct involvement in the scheme," wrote Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the ACLJ. "Further, sending a letter from the top person in the IRS Exempt Organization division to a small Tea Party group also underscores the intimidation used in this targeting ploy."

The Obama IRS Scandal widens:

** Nearly 500 conservative groups targeted
** At least 5 pro-Israel groups targeted
** Constitutional groups targeted
** Groups that criticized Obama administration were targeted
** At least two pro-life groups targeted
** A Texas voting-rights group was targeted
** Conservative activists and businesses were targeted.
** At least 88 IRS agents were involved in the targeting scandal

Despite this myriad of evidence...
Today Obama campaign manager David Plouffe told ABC's This Week panel the IRS scandal targeting 500 conservative groups and unknown numbers of conservative donors "was not a political pursuit."
And, he didn't even bat an eye.

Thankfully, Karl Rove was there to rip him a new one.
