Howard Courant-Citizen
Thursday, May 30, 1957

George Everett Pervines, a well loved neighbor and citizen of Elk county, Kansas, passed away at his home Sunday, May 26, 1957, after an illness of almost seven weeks.  He was the son of Francis and Amelia Weatherby Pervines, born September 8, 1873 near Springfield, Illinois.  He came to Elk county, Kansas at the age of ten years, grew to manhood here, and has been a resident of this section all of his adult life.

In childhood and youth he attended the Lone Elm or Mary Belle public school four miles southeast of Howard.

On December 25, 1894, he was married to Lillian Mae Davis of Howard, Kansas.  A daughter, Carrie Ethel Tilley, preceded him in death March 27, 1957,  He leaves his widow, Lillian Pervines, of Howard, Kansas; a granddaughter, Mrs. Mae McKinney of Fritch, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Carrie Basey, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas.

Mr. Pervines was a farmer for years in rural Howard.  After moving to town he retained his interest in gardening, deriving much satisfaction from growing one of the largest and best gardens in town.  He liked to hunt and fish.  Last fall was his last attempt at hunting and he was ready to begin his favorite sport of fishing this spring when his recent illness precluded these anticipations of this outdoor sport.  He was a neighbor of high calliber, one that could be trusted and one who would trust others.  He had an honesty of countenence and manner which warmed the hearts of his friends.  We wish him well in his new venture and trust that God has for him important work to which he will soon be called.  At Christmas time, 1954, George and Mrs. Pervines had the high privelege of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held at the Moon Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 28th, the Rev. P.L. Mitchell being in charge.  Mrs. Mitchell was soloist, with Mrs. Elwood Miller, accompanist.  The casket bearers were O. J. Coon, Arthur Cummins, Milo Ingle, Leslie _______, Irving Anderson, and George Nix.  Concluding services and burial were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard.
