Ruby E. Smith, age 88, retired from NCR, passed from this life on Friday, March 29, 2013.  

At the age of 2, Ruby and her family came to Kansas, traveling by train from Lumberport, West Virginia, and settled in Elk Falls, Kansas.  She enjoyed being a homemaker.  After raising her children, she worked at NCR until retirement.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, Kansas.  Service will be held  at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at First Christian Church in Haysville, Kansas.  Burial will follow at Elk Falls Cemetery in Elk Falls, Kansas.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Hammons of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Sue (Gary) Benjamin of Derby, Kansas;  her son, Paul J. (Peggy) Smith of Haysville, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Dovenor and Ludicie Fortney; her sister, Pauline McClendon; her brother, Paul Fortney; and her grandson, Justin Hammons.  A memorial has been established with First Christian Church, 7465 S. Meridian, Haysville, Kansas 67060.
