Treva Doreen Gentry, 93, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas.  She was born on September 23, 1919 in rural Lowe, Kansas to Thomas William and Lettie Blanche (Sanborn) Banning.

She attended school at Lowe through the eighth grade before moving into Sedan to help care for her nieces and nephews.  For many years she worked for Paul Keeney at a cafe in Sedan until becoming a homemaker.  On December 19, 1949, she married Lee T. Gentry Jr. in Howard, Kansas, and they made their home in Sedan.  Lee preceded her in death on May 30, 1993.  Treva was a wonderful mom and grandma.  She enjoyed playing dominoes, cooking, and being with family.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharla and Chris Jeffrey of Sedan, Kansas, Marsha and Rodney Dickens of Sedan, Kansas, and Nancy and Greg Boicourt of Fredonia, Kansas; one sister, Beulah Petty of Sedan, Kansas; one brother, Wesley Banning of Howard, Kansas; six grandchildren, Amy Dickens Lampson of Wichita, Kansas, Carrie Cummings of Sedan, Kansas, Tyler Boicourt of Joplin, Missouri, Brett Dickens of Sedan, Kansas, Kristen Mller of Sedan, Kansas, and Kylee Grigsby of Chanute, Kansas; 13 great-grandchildren, Jaden Jeffery, Drew Lampson, Keaton Dickens, Jacie Cummings, Brycen Dickens, Jansen Grisgsby, Kenzie Miller, Landry Grigsby, Aubrey Lampson, Emma Boicourt, Douglas Cummings, Chester Cummings, and Huntur Cummings.  Treva was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, and five sisters, Elnor Banning, Thelma Sanders, Neva Jean Sanders, Lois Petty, and Glodene Sanders.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sedan, Kansas with Rev. Gene DeWitt officiating.  A private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.  Family and friends may call on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Tallgrass Rural Health Clinic of Sedan or the Sedan City Hospital, and remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
