I remember the Gas Wars in the 50s, the lowest price I remember was 17.9 per gallon. At different times  Howard had 11 or more different  stations. I think there were 5 on Pine, Pine was the main highway in and out to and from the South , 3 on Wabash, 3 on the Highway. The cheap gas was a result of America buying the oil from the Arabs and paying them a dollar a barrel. That all stopped with the 73 embargo. We had lots of 8, 10, 12 cylinder vehicles then.
