I am hoping to find out more about the area where my greatgrandparents lived, also if any of the descendants are still living there.  Bushrod and Sarah Taylor came to Kansas in 1889 from Virginia and I found them on the 1900 Census in Salt Springs Township, Greenwood, KS and on the 1910 Census in Howard Township, Elk, KS.  I don't know how much distance there is between the two, was this a long move or maybe to a neighboring farm.

My grandmother was their fouth child, Mamie that married Orean Draper.  They stayed in Howard, ElK, KS until after the birth of my father in 1912 when they moved to Northwest Kansas.  Later moving to Montana.  Mamie passed away before I was born so I know very little about her.

The information I have shows Bushrod died in 1917 and Sarah died in 1922, both are buried at Fall River.  Is this the name of the cemetery?

Any information about the cemetery and anything else will be greatly appreciated.  From the postings on this site I can't wait to come visit this friendly area.

Thanks in advance

It seems to me that I've come across the name of Draper some where while looking in the newspaper archives.  But I haven't found it yet in my huge stack of material that I've collected. I'll have to keep "digging."

I will check my information to see when George Draper and family left Nebraska and settled in Elk County and when they left there to move to Northwest Kansas.

My Grandmother, Mamie Taylor was about 9 years old when her family came to Elk County from Virginia in 1889 and was married there on Jan 20, 1906 to Orean Draper.  They had three sons including my father when they left in 1914.

Would there have been a school there that Mamie and her siblings would have attended?  She had two brothers named Wallace and Luther and two sisters named Ella and Elizabeth.  Two sisters were older, Jessie married a Thomas Foster and Rhoda married a James Marion.  Both moved to Northwest Kansas but I don't know anything about the younger children.

The information I have shows Bushrod and Sarah Taylor are buried at Fall River.  Is there a cemetery by that name or is that the town?  I would appreciate any information that anyone has.

Again, this is a great site and I have enjoyed reading all the posts.

Fall River is a small town that lies partially in the northeast corner of Elk County.  The biggest part of the town lies in Greenwood County.  There is surely a cemetery there but I don't know if it is named Fall River cemetery or if it is in Elk County or Greenwood County.

Fall River has the Mt. Zion cemetery which used to be called North Pole cemetery.  I am not aware of a cemetery in Fall River.  Here is a link for the Greenwood County Historical Society with a list of the cemeteries, but I did not see a listing for just Fall River.
