Lowell W. "Chick" Brewer of Howard, Kansas, age 72, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  Lowell was born on October 24, 1937 in Gravel Switch, Kentucky to George W. and Ruby E. (Blackaby) Brewer.

After Lowell was born, his family moved to Indiana where he worked as a heavy equipment operator all of his life and enjoyed his work.  In 1979, Lowell married Dorothy Lanning in Howard, Kansas.  They were married for 31 years until his death.  She survives at their home in Howard.

Survivors including his wife, Dorothy, are:  five stepsons, Billy Jr. and Patsy Lanning of Howard, Kansas, Richard and Janice Lanning of Liberal, Kansas, Robert and Kim Lanning of Hays, Kansas, David and Cathy Lanning of Cherryvale Kansas, and Keith and Becky Lanning of Independence, Kansas; one sister, Joyce Bryant of West Lafayette, Indiana; ten brothers, Lawrence and Daphne Brewer of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Ivan and Carol Brewer of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Warren and Eleanor Brewer of Ladoga, Indiana, Maurice and Carolyn Brewer of Midland, Michigan, Donald Brewer of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Kenneth Brewer of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Fred and Jo Brewer of Waveland, Indiana, Jerry Brewer of Ladoga, Indiana, and Dale and Judy Brewer of Danville, Indiana; ten step-grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Cremation has been requested.  A private family service will be held at a later date.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Howard Twilight Manor and may be left with the funeral home.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
