SHEEL, Lavoy - b. March 22, 1933 - d. December 11, 2009

Lavoy Sheel, age 76, a resident of Fayetteville, Arkansas and formerly of Moline, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  She was born March 22, 1933 in Levelland, Texas to George William (Dub) and Novell Good.

On July 31, 1934, Lavoy was united in marriage to Harold Frank Sheel at Ashland, Kansas.  They were married for 50 years until his death on September 25, 2004.  Lavoy loved the Lord and was a blessing and a joy to her family as well as to those who knew her.  Her strength and optimism in the face of an extended battle with cancer inspired us all.

She is survived by her son, Bill Sheel and his wife, Nonie, of Greeley, Colorado; her daughter, Sandra and husband Forrest Pobst of Austin, Texas; and her daughter, Mary Ann and husband Rick Segalla of Springdale, Arkansas; by her sister, Ina Floy and husband Melvin Geier of Girard, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Ruth Hisle of Brownsville, Texas; seven grandchidlren, Stacy Maddera and Collin McCloud, Annie Erickson and husband Daniel, Cassie Sheel, Taylor and Maddie Segalla, and Samantha and Kelsey Pobst; and 3 great-grandchidlren, Ryan and Max Maddera and Pypr McCloud.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harold Sheel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Moline United Methodist Church with Rev. Chan Lovelace and Rev. Gary Parsons presiding.  Burial wil be at the Moline Cemetery following the service.  Visitation will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Memorials may be made to the Moline United Methodist Church or the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.

Bless her heart. Lavoy was the sweetest person. Always enjoyed visiting with Harold and Lavoy.  My sympathy to all the family.

You are right Granny, Lavoy was sweet as well as being courageous. Cancer devastated that family, Lavoy nursed her father, then her husband and helped with her brother-in-law, finally losing her own life to that dreaded killer. I used to really enjoy seeing her and Harold out for their walks. The world will miss this dear lady.
