                                        MICHAEL SHEEL KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

                                (Michael is the youngest son of Carl and Debbie Sheel from Moline, KS)



A 17-year-old Augusta youth is dead after a crash on U.S. 54 Highway near Southwest Diamond Road, west of Augusta, Saturday night.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Michael Eldon Sheel of Augusta collided with the rear of a 1997 Pontiac passenger car, both traveling eastbound on U.S. 54. Sheel died from the injuries he suffered in the crash.

Kayla Lea Ellen Higgins, 18, of Wichita, a passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Wesley Medical Center with critical injuries.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday about 500 feet east of SW Diamond Road.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the car, 28-year-old John Albert Dobbs of Augusta, was not injured. The other occupants of the vehicle were Dakota Dobbs, 2, Jaeden Dobbs, 5, Jennifer Dobbs, 7, and 10-year-old Sara Kurweinz. They also escaped serious injury.

MOLINE - Sheel, Michael E., 17, died from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, September 16, 2006. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at the Moline Cemetery. Arrangements by Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Kayla Lea Ellen Higgins, 18, of Wichita, a passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Wesley Medical Center with critical injuries.

It was my understanding from the TV this morning that Kayla also passed away after being taken off life support.  Kayla and Michael were married and expecting their first child in January.  Michael apparently was getting ready to go into the service.  My information came from Tina Shipley who is Chris Sheel's mother-in-law and has been with Chris and Cassidy through this trying, trying time.  God Bless that family as they go through this horrible ordeal.

MICHAEL E. SHEEL

  Michael Eldon "Mike" Sheel, 17, of Augusta, and formerly of Moline, died Saturday as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident west of Augusta.
  Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Moline Cemetery with the Rev. Dave Sanchez of the Christian Community Church of Longton officiating.
  The Michael Sheel Memorial has been established for the benefit of his family.  Contributions may be left with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard, which is handling the arrangements.
  Mike was born on Dec. 4, 1988 at Iola, the son of Carl Gene and Deborah Ann (Mitchell) Sheel.  He attended West Elk schools and grew up in Moline.
  On June 26, 2006, he married Kayla Lea Ellen Higgins at Wichita, and they made their home in Augusta.  Kayla also died from injuries received in the accident.
  Mike had been employed as a cook and recently enlisted in the United States Army.
  He is survived by his parents, Carl Sheel of Wichita and Debbie Sheel, Moline; his brother, Chris Sheel, Howard; and his grandparents, Larry and Ettie Mitchell of Howard and Bill and Barbara Bugg of Livingston, Texas.
