Helen C. Stockdale-Wells of Valley Center, Kansas, age 91, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Via Christi-St. Joseph's Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  Helen was born on March 12, 1918 at Poynor, Missouri, the daughter of J.H. and Stella (Johnson) Patterson. She moved with her parents to Mulhall, Oklahoma and later to Collinsville, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school.

Helen was united in marriage to O. Foyd Stockdale on Feburary 3, 1941, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1995.  In 1997, Helen married J. Cleland Wells, and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2003.  Helen was a dedicated wife and a good mother to her children looking after all their material and spiritual needs the best she could.  She gave her life to Christ in early childhood.  Helen was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 149, both in Howard, Kansas.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Edith Johnson and he husband Claude of Park City, Kansas and Flora Bishop and her husband Larry of Wichita, Kansas; one brother Elmer Patterson of Bakersfield, California; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and one step-great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Floyd Stockdale and Cleland Wells; two brothers; and three sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a,.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas with Pastor Robin Haines officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Family suggests memorials to the Open Door Ministries and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, P.O.
