  Our readers will learn with profound regret of the death of one of Elk county's first settlers and best men, M. B. Crawford, which occurred November 26, at Harper, Kansas, where he was living with his youngest daughter.
  M. B. Crawford came to Elk county in the early seventys and located on the farm south of Howard at the top of the hill across Elk river from the cemetery.  There he lived and raised his family until about five years ago when he sold his farm and moved to Moline, where he purchased a small tract of ground adjoining the town and fixed up a nice home.  Here he lived until about two years ago when his wife died and since that time he has been living with his children in various sections of the state and Oklahoma.  His only child living in this county is Mrs. Dan Long of Moline.
  Brock Crawford came to Kansas when the state was new and saw it grow from its raw prairie state to the present commonwealth.  He was one of the first officers of the first legislative assembly ever held at Topeka, and many times since that held positions of honor and importance in that body.  He was a ardent advocate of measures that appealed to him as right and was always ready to do more than his part in every undertaking.  During the war he took part in several engagements as a member of the Kansas militia.
  He was 72 years of age at the time of his death.  The body was brought to Moline and laid to rest beside that of his wife.  All who knew him mourn his death.
