Nicholas Erwin "Nick" Buck, age 87, a resident of Severy, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  Nick was born on January 13, 1922 in Aliceville, Kansas, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Buck.

Nick was a graduate of Anderson County High School.  During World War II, Nick served in the United States Coast Guard.  He worked as a machinist in the oilfield industry.  He was a member of the United Methodist Chuch in Severy and VFW-John C. Reed Post 2712 of Eureka, Kansas.

On February 2, 1980, Nick was united in marriage to Mary Louise (Miller) Signer, and she survives at their home.  Other survivors include two stepsons, Lyle Signer of Perry, Georgia and Ted Signer of Houston, Texas; seven step-grandchildren; and fourteen step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, and one stepson, Dennis Signer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Severy, Kansas with Pastor Charles Cryderman officiating.  Viewing will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas. 

Family suggests contributions to either the Severy United Methodist Church or the Eureka Nursing Center and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
