Dale Boyd Turner, 81, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Fredonia.  He was born June 7, 1927 in Chetopa, Kansas, the son of James and Grace (Whitner) Turner.

On May 1, 1947, he married Joyce Knoles, and she preceded him in death on July 11, 1991.  He married Carol Krie in Fredonia on June 27, 1992, and she survives at their home.  He was an employee, manager, and later joint owner of Cox Grain in Fredonia.  He retired in 1992 after working there 44 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1944 to June 1946.  His memberships include the First Christian Church, a charter member of the Fredonia Eagles, American Legion, and the V.F.W.

His survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, June Glasgow of Hillsboro, Kansas; two sons, Curtis Turner of Centennial, Colorado and Richard Turner of Longmont, Colorado; six stepchildren, Kim Gillen of St. Roberts, Missouri, Valrie Jordan of Fredonia, Kansas, Robin Price of Fredonia, Kansas, Billy Gillen of Winchester Kentucky, Michel Gillen of South Carolina, and Shawn LaRocque of Fredonia, Kansas; a brother, Duane Turner of Greenville, Ohio; three sisters, Doris Coffey of Clinton, Missouri, Treva Ballard of Denair, California, and Shirley Dale of Clackamas, Oregon; twenty-one grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Fredonia, Kansas with Carl Thornton officiating.  Burial with Military Rites will be at Fredonia City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A memorial has been established in his name with the Fredonia Flag Fund and may be sent to Timmons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 168, Fredonia, Kansas  66736.

The Turner family lived in Howard for a few years in the 1960s, and their three children attended Howard Schools.  I believe they attended the First Christian Church in Howard.
