San Francisco gets a lot of heat from some of the country for Nancy Pelosi and being democratic. Some times it is suggested or outright stated that California is unpatriotic. This week I am spending time at San Francisco's Fleet Week a celebration started by Diane Feinstein in 1981. Tomorrow is the Blue Angels practice where the estimated crowd will be over a million people. The two day show attendance for Saturday and Sunday will beat many states total population. No matter what our political differences the love of America and the support of our troops by the PEOPLE even in liberal San Francisco is alive and well.

I've always suspected that, underneath that apathetic demeanor, most people have a patriotic bone that is alive and well.

I'd have to check current census figure but I don't think I am far off. Our total population is around 34 million people in the state. The largest percentage has origins in the Midwest. Have to do some fact cheching on the census data but I am willing to venture that California is one of the largest Midwest states by birth.

David

Rough figure update 38 million people in California and 6% came from the midwest. Basically 2.3 million Midwesterners.

Off subject, but since most of the CA. population migrated from the midwest, how did it become a liberal state? Just curious about your theory, not trying to start anything.  8) 8)

SDM, I like you and you could never start anything with me. I may not be able to answer your question directly due to some statistic I heard of recently. California is known as a heavily liberal and democratic state. As a life long registered republican that is very conservative and liberal depending on the issue I was shocked to find out the following.(California only stats) The largest party of registered voters is the Republican party at 44%. The next is Democratic at 38%. That leaves 18 % for others. Why are we a heavily Democratic stronghold. I have my theories. Many variables and a lot of quessing on my part so I will have to get back to you. I just found out I am part of the largest party in California and I thought the democrats were. Part of it is that many of us vote in a broad spectrum from liberal to conservative depending on the specific issue.

David

47%  of the population was born in California
19 % of the population were born in other US states. (6 % from the midwest and the other 13% equally from the 4 other regions)
33% were born outside the United States( Not all able to vote as citizens)

   D. I must have a very sick mind. When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought an entirely different Fleet. I wondered if someone was doing colonoscopy ads the way other medical tests are advertised from time to time.   ;D ;D ;D ;D
