Hey yall thanks. :)

I did this.  I took a couple tblspns of the starter i have, mixed with a couple cups of flour and one cup of warm water about 85 deg and put in my pickle jar i just ate the last pickle out of.
Let it set all day today, and came in and smelled the starter all over the place :)

Soooo i'll just let it work and feed it again in a couple days.  I am saving my old starter, hrmmm i think i'll put it in a baggie and freeze it because its very sour starter.  :)  I like my sourdough bread really sour!  Mmmmm

Anyway i'll see how this works. :) Hopefully it will do better now.

Steve sounds like you are on the right track. Let us know how things progress. It took me a long time to get a good sour batch of starter. I'll take that first I can "cheat" and get the bread to rise using commercial yeast but to get that sour lactobacillus without getting bad tasting bacteria in the starter is the key to good sourdough.
