Melissa Jane (Aul) Crismas, daughter of John and Nancy Aul, was born October 27, 1857, near Georgetown, Pennsylvania, and died at her home in Howard, Kansas, October 24, 1943, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 27 days and was laid to rest on her 86th birthday.

On June 20, 1874, she was married to James W. Crismas, who preceded her death in December, 1939.

To this union were born eight children, six daughters and two sons: Mabel Crismas of the home, Clarence Crismas of Howard, Kansas, Clemmie Scammel of Cherryvale, Kansas, Gertruce Baumgartel of Severy, Kansas, Myrtle Isaacs of Billings, Oklahoma, Blanche Burres of Howard, Kansas. The oldest son, Clinton Everett, passed away October 22, 1928, and Olive Edna Keithley passed away July 2, 1941.

At the age of 14, she came to New Albany, Kansas with her parents.  After her marriage she lived the most of her life in and around Howard, Kansas except for one month that she stayed with her family in Oklahoma in 1911.

All of her children were at her bedside during her last ilness.

She leaves to mourn her departure her five daughters and one son,  22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tempelton, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and one brother James E. Aul of Joplin Missouri, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held from the Moon Chapel in Howard, Kansas on Wednesday, October 27, 1943, at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev. V. L. Trail.  Pall bearers were: Walter Webster, Alva Crismas, Everett Crismas, Harry Webster, James Isaacs, and Otto Webster.  Music was provided by Mrs. Philip Taylor, accompanied by Miss Sarabel Trail.  Interment was in Grace Lawn Cemetery,
Howard, Kansas.
